The May 2009 featured artist in the Cypress Art Gallery, home of the Lompoc Valley Art Assoc. is Kimberley Reid. Her reception will be on Saturday May 9th from 2pm to 4pm. We welcome all to enjoy this month's exhibit. It will focus on her two mediums: watercolors and ceramic wall sculptures.

Kimberley has enjoyed watercolor painting and other painting mediums for many years. She is a professional freelance graphic artist and illustrator with over 25 years of experience. At the beginning of her long career she studied fine arts, art history and graphic design at university while working as a freelance graphic artist and technical illustrator. She and her family are new residents to Lompoc valley.

She now enjoys painting historical landmarks. This show features watercolor paintings from her British castle painting tour. The older the architectural history the better, this holds her fascination. Some castles captured in paint are 900 years old. She is also in the process of painting all the California missions. This show will feature original paintings in addition to limited edition lithographs of the watercolors.

Her three dimensional ceramic sculptures capture all the raw color and frenzy of a living coral reef. They are cased in Plexiglas wall boxes. Live models in her own saltwater reef tank inspired the fish and corals. The backgrounds are done with airbrushed mirrors to give an illusion of water depth and distant fish.

The Cypress Gallery and LVAA hope you will join us at this reception or stop by during the month of May to visit this interesting show. The gallery is open Tuesday through Sunday, 12pm to 4pm, (always closed on Mondays). The address is
119 East Cypress Avenue, Central Square, Lompoc.
